What is math? If you were to ask some random person on the street, you would probably get an answer of "I hate math" or "Math is hard." As a future math teacher, I may be asked this by one of my students and I need to be ready to have an answer.
Math is such a vast topic that it is hard to define what exactly it is, but here it goes. Math is using number and letters to develop problem solving and critical thinking skills. Math is used all around us and we use math on a daily basis without even thinking about it. Math is also something that can take time to learn. Math does not always mean numbers and calculations. Math can be graphs and figures, shapes and objects, equations and tables.
The five milestones of math in my opinion are:
1) pi
2) quadratic formula
3) area and volume formulas
4) logarithms
5) addition/subtraction/multiplication/division
